Robert B. Gollance, M.D., F.A.C.S. performs all the LASIK and PRK surgery for The Eye Institute. He is a Harvard College and Columbia Medical School graduate. His biography is included in the Marquis Publications Who's Who in America & Who's Who in America in Medicine and Health Care. He has been named one of America's Top Ophthalmologists by the Consumers Research Council of America.
He attended Harvard University on scholarship, graduating with honors in physics. He received his M.D. degree from Columbia University, where he was a New York State Regents Scholar. He did his Residency at NYU where he was a National Institutes of Health Fellow. While in the U.S. Army following Residency, Dr. Gollance was honored by Korean Ophthalmology Society and the Seoul Catholic Medical Center for work to establish the first Eye Bank in Korea and for very extensive charity care in that country.

Dr. Gollance is one of the pioneer refractive surgeons in New Jersey with eleven years experience in the field. Presently he is Certified to performs both standard and custom LASIK and PRK on both the VISX and Alcon Ladar "flying spot" lasers. Depending on the circumstances, Dr. Gollance will select the laser and procedure best for you.
Dr. Gollance has taught in numerous courses on cataract surgery and has served on the Bausch and Lomb Medical Advisory Committee and the Becton "Great Hands Surgical Advisory Committee". In these capacities
he has worked to develop new surgical instrumentation and techniques. He has served on the faculties of both NYU and Columbia and presently serves on the Advisory Committee for Ophthalmology Development of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is a former Medical Staff President and Ophthalmology Department Chairman at Chilton Memorial Hospital.
Ken E. Mishler, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a leading cataract surgeon in our area. He has been called on by colleagues for teaching in the area. He serves as Chairman of the Credentials Committee at Chilton Memorial Hospital, He is on the Advisory Committee for the Chilton Outpatient Surgery Center and has twice been Department Chairman in Ophthalmology.
He is a graduate of the University of Rochester and received his M.D. degree from Emory Medical School in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Mishler served in the U.S. Public Health Service where he did his Residency. He also trained at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston and the Armed Forces Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C. He did a Fellowship sub specializing in the cornea at Ohio State University.
Dr. Mishler continued at the USPHS in a teaching capacity, training residents in corneal diseases and corneal transplantation surgery. He has published numerous papers in ophthalmology in corneal diseases and in other areas including ocular trauma. Dr. Mishler is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.
Stephen A. Gollance, M.D., who has recently joined The Eye Institute, has demonstrated a combination of scientific achievement and human compassion that makes us very happy to welcome him aboard as a new member of the group.
Dr. Gollance attended Union College, graduating with honors in Biology and Chemistry and was inducted into the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society for exemplary research as an undergraduate. He received his Medical Degree from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. Dr. Gollance was residency trained in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery at The Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, New Jersey Medical School (UMDNJ).
Dr. Gollance was the recipient of the Irving Shulman, MD Memorial Award for “exemplary compassion and medical expertise” as an ophthalmology resident. He also received the Lions Eye Research Foundation of New Jersey Resident Research Award in recognition of outstanding research by an ophthalmology resident.
Dr. Gollance completed a fellowship in Ocular Pathology with W. Richard Green M.D. at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has also completed a research fellowship at The Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, New Jersey Medical School (UMDNJ) with Robert D. Fechtner M.D. in glaucoma.
Dr. Gollance has four publications in Ophthalmology (the journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology) in the fields of glaucoma and eye pathology.
